The Theatre Royal
1878
On opening night of this grand Theatre in the late 19th Century, one thousand of Nelson's six thousand population was crammed into this building. The Theatre Royal is the oldest wooden theatre still in use in the Southern Hemisphere. June 18th 2010 was the grand opening of a ten year re-build project to restore the grand dame to its former glory. It can now be enjoyed by Nelson for another century to come.
