St. Johns
1846
St. Johns on the hill in Wakefield is one if the oldest church buildings in New Zealand, and the oldest in the South Island. It has been serving the Christian community in Wakefield since pioneer days.
On the roof inside the church are some cat foot prints which are over one hundred years old. The story goes, whilst the wood for the roof was laying in the yard waiting to be used... a cat walked over it, a century later that cat's legacy still lives on!
